The experience also spurred her to take charge and pursue a life long dream of becoming a
stand-up comic. So, after ten years of being a St.Maartener, she reluctantly moved to
California. But as Kim says, “"I now carry paradise in my heart daily because I have lived on St.
Maarten. It will always be my home.”
When radio Laser 101’s mischievous morning man Bulldog discovered Kim was a budding
comedian, he invited her to perform in a fictitious comedy review. But Kim inadvertently turned
the tables on HIM. She explains,
“When Bulldog invited me to perform, there was nothing planned!! When I accepted, he had
no choice but to put a show together. In my ignorance I made it happen!” The night was a huge
success.
In print or on stage, Kim is committed to continue to make people laugh at the worst that life

I was completely engulfed with reading this book. Once I started I could not put it down. Reading this book was a rollercoaster of emotions both through rememberance of my own experiences as well as seeing life through the eyes of Kim Samuels and her family. Her witty approach and unabashed descriptions reflected the true spirit of life amongst hurricanes. While working full time she performed stand-up, had her own home based business making gift baskets and silk flower arrangements. Yet her passion remains in writing and comedy. named Luis hit St. Maarten on September 4, 1995. It was an extremely powerful hurricane with
wind gusts of up to 200 MPH and tornado action within it. You would think that would be
enough to deal with but that of course, would have been too good to be true. Unbelievably,
another hurricane named Marilyn hit the island just 10 days later.
This book chronicles the escapades of the Samuels family from their preparations, through
the actual events and on to the aftermath. It also reveals for the first time things to do and not
to do that are not on the "hurricane preparedness" lists!
